I believe that ritual can have a massive role re-calibrating sleep patterns. Because sleep is all about the state of the subconscious mind. And the subconscious mind is like Pavlov's dogs when it comes to rituals, totally suggestible. So bring on those bells! We also know this instinctively when we're trying to teach a baby to sleep. We have a whole bedtime ritual for baby, each part of which reinforces the message...it's that time.... Our subconscious...
If you find getting to sleep pretty easy..but you tend to wake up at silly o'clock in the night and it's the 'wake-wake' type, where you find yourself cajoling your body....come on now, it's still night-time.." Well here are a few things that you can do to help this. 1. Investigate - there could be an external stimulation - a bright light in from the street, a noise household appliance, loud sound of some kind. If that sound is a child - not much you can do, though you can still practice the following exercises to get back to sleep....
