When you dig deep into any philosophical concepts of reality, you’ll hit paradoxes. Truths that conflict. That’s necessarily the case. It doesn’t mean that things don’t add up, it just means that it’s hard to fit full and coherent concepts of reality into the constructs of our thinking minds. And that’s ok.
What’s not ok is incongruent beliefs. These are beliefs that conflict mainly because we haven’t given them enough thought to settle on a personal coherent value system. We’ll go deep into these in our year of deep wellness – but they must be weeded out for 3 reasons:
Happiness. Incongruences messes with your state of mind. As Gandhi put it “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony” A coherence between your values, your goals, your thoughts and actions are vital for a deep sense of wellbeing.
Goal Attainment. If you are shooting for a goal that’s incongruent with a value, there’s a friction there and it just won’t work.
Getting in the flow. Truth is that though it's you that sets the goals, it’s the powers that be – call it God, call it the force, call it what you like – but its this force in the universe that does most the heavy lifting for you. You need to be fully aligned with your true beliefs, with your purpose, with your highest calling, for this force to kick in.
So if you hit a paradox – something that doesn’t square in your head – don’t worry. But if you hit upon a goal that feels incongruent with your values – press a big stop button.
